Case Study: Identification Technologies

Identification technologies like facial recognition are no longer science fiction – they exist are being widely deployed. While these systems may bring benefits like convenience and improved public safety, they also have profound implications for individual privacy.

In this chapter, we introduce the concept of identification technologies (including, but not limited to, facial recognition), discuss their ramifications on privacy, and do a VSD analysis of the stakeholders in this debate and how identification technologies may impact them, for good and for ill.
